• Five men have appeared before Manchester Crown Court accused of corruption and defrauding Freightliners. Terence Bevington pleaded not guilty to six counts of corruption involving the receipt of a Volvo motor car, a petrol card and 26,240 for certifying false invoices for payment; and to one count of false petty cash documents in February 1987.

Bevington and Robert Gavin Grey pleaded not guilty to one count of corruption in that it was alleged that they falsely obtained payment of £33,584 through false invoices and accounts

Bevington and Alexander McCormick pleaded not guilty to defrauding Freightliners of 13,720 through the falsification of mileage records for payment of trailer hire, rate confirmation and false invoicing.

The case was adjourned until May, when three weeks have been set aside for the trial.
