MORE THAN 500 ambulances have now been fitted with stainless steel exhaust silencers, the maker of the devices, Nocorrode Ltd, Tillbridge Lane Works, Scampton, Linos, claims. The silencers are said to outlast the normal working life of an ambulance — five years — during which time a standard silencer would require changing an average .3.4 times.
The Nocorrode silencer is said to reduce exhaust pollution to one-eighth that from a normal silencer when fitted to the Bedford CF, Austin • Morris JU or Ford Transit vehicles.
