AUSTIN MORRIS

Parts for British Leyland Redline as well as the Austin Morris range of light vehicles are stocked at Cowley. Stock orders are delivered to distributors regularly, but the actual frequency varies from distributor to distributor. Dealers must order through their distributor.

Emergency orders are accepted by any means — telex, phone or answer phone, and provided the order is received at Cowley by 10am the part will be dispatched to one of several break bulk depots and delivered from there by the following morning.

The stock control computer is programmed to keep a proportion of stock back for emergency use only.

If there is no stock of the item required at Cowley then a "round robin" telex message is put round all distributors.

Customers can contact Cowley direct if they feel they are getting nowhere through normal channels.

Like everyone else, the black period for .Austin Morris was during the three-day week, but the firsttime-pick rate is now about 95 per cent.
