Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Latest in a series of demonstrations being given by Goodyear to show the advantages of its Super Single low-profile tyres took place last Friday at Rhoose, Glamorgan. A Leyland six-wheel truck mixer with double drive rear bogie was used and while 12min was needed to complete a circuit of the demonstration area with twin rear tyres. only 4min was needed when the Super Singles were in use.

The improvement can be put down to better flotation with the wide single tyres as both types had a -Road Lug" tread pattern. And also . demonstrated was the reduced problem of mud being left on the road in areas close to sites. Even though it is not possible to assess savings in labour needed to keep public roads clean in these areas, the saving in weight can be related to reduced costs. The 9.00-20, 14-ply tyres used on the demonstration vehicle weighed 203Ib each (with their wheels) as compared with 3141b for each Super Single. This weight reduction of 1841b per axle can mean a saving in excise tax of £13 10s per year for a vehicle in many circumstances.
