• At Bishop Auckland magistrates court last week a haulage company was fined £.130 for operating outside the conditions of its Contract A licence.

Dents Transport (Spennymoor) Ltd. was charged on 13 counts of operating outside the conditions of its carriers licence conditions by carrying for hire and reward with a contract vehicle during January and February this year.

Dents said application had been made to the Northern LA's office for a temporary substitution and a letter was produced dated January 11 1968 purporting to have been sent following a request by phone.

In evidence Mr. T. W. Langlands, enforcement section, Northern Traffic Area, stated that no such letter had been received and denied having given verbal permission to Dents for such a substitution.
