Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new type of single-deck, one-man operated "Autofare" bus will shortly go into experimental service on some country bus routes of London Transport. Announcing this move, LTB stated that route 430 (RedhillReigate via South Park) will be changed to the new type of bus on Saturday, November 23.

Two adult fares will be charged-6d and 1 s, with half fares for children. The buses will carry 25 seated and 41 standing passengers. thus extending the standee principle into the country bus area. (Already similar buses in the Wood Green area have come to be known colloquially as the "cattle trucks".) Instead of paying the driver, as on normal o-m-o buses, passengers will obtain their tickets inside the bus from one of two machines. One will accept 3d pieces and the other Ed pieces. Passengers will leave the bus by the central exit doors provided.

The new fare scales will necessitate the adjustment of most fares on the route: as a result some journeys will cost more and others less. Distance between fare stages is generally increased and some fare stage points resited. F. K. M.
