M. A. WHITFIELD has been appointed representative for the north-west of England and North Wales, of E. Boydell and Co., Ltd. He was previously in charge of the company's spares depot at Altrincham and is an expert on oil engines.

SIR CHARLES TENNYSON, C.M.G., secretary of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., has accepted the invitation of the Minister of Labour to be a member of the Appointments Department Advisory Council, which has just been formed to advise the Minister on the work of the Appointments Department of thee Ministry.

M. A. LAWRENCE. of Shirley. Birmingham, has been elected national chairman of the Hauliers Mutual Federation, He has been closely connected with the road-transport industry since 1924 and has taken a prominent part in the affairs of the Federation since its inception. He was the first vice-chairman of the Birmingham branch. MR. DOUGLAS MARSDEN-JONES has been appointed personnel manager of the Ford Motor Co., Ltd. During the war he was Director of Factories at the Ministry of Supply and has had a wide experience in industry.

MR. J. R. PARRY, A.M.1.Mech.E., of the engineering division of 'Leyland Motors, Ltd., is to represent the company in the Near East on technical matters. He will review the service requirements of the many Leyland vehicles operating in that territory. Before the war he was, for a number of years, Leyland's technical representative in the Near East, with headquarters at Teheran.

THE ROAD AND RAIL CENTRAL CONFERENCE

AT the Road and Rail Central Conferencelerence meeting presided over by Mr. A. E. Sewell, on October 29, Mr. R. W. Sewill made sympathetic reference to the death of Mr. F. W. Lampitt, of the G.W.R., and the Conference expressed appreciation of his work. Mr. D. Blee was welcomed as his successor, also Mr. W. P. Bradbury, chief commercial manager of the L.M.S., in-place of Mr. F. A. Pope.

New members of the Road Panel to whom a welcome was also extended are: Messrs. W. Mousley, H. Wilkinson, B. Winterbottom and Captain 0. P. Upston.

The joint procedure for examination of licence applications by the R.H.A. and the main-line railways was approved, and it was mentioned that much appreciation had been expressed by applicants.

Discussions took place oo the questions of conditions of carriage, limitation of liability, agreed charges, etc. The Road Panel met prior to the ' joint gathering and unanimously re-elected Mr. R. W. Sewill to the chair.
