Two Six-wheeled Trolleybus Chassis, One with a Park Royal 56-seater Body, and a 32-seater Four-wheeled Trolleybus 1 Stand 121

W/ITII the large-scale abandament VV of tramways, the trolleybus has found a firm place in the nation's passenger transport system, and the Sunbeam-B,T.H. is one of the most popular

makes now employed. Particularly does this remark apply to the M.S.2.type six-wheeler suitable for 56-70seater bodies. Visitors are able to inspect a chassis of this type as well as a complete vehicle with a Park Royal 56-seater body. Incidentally, all Sunbeam trolleybuses have B.T.H. elec

trical equipment. .

All units are readily accessible, and the control equipment is mounted on the chassis before the body is fitted, thus making the chassis self-contained. The road springs are of the divided back-plate type with solid eyes. The brakes, operating directly on all six wheels, are of the Sunbeam-Lockheed hydraulic pattern, incorporating the Sunbeam patented compensating end scaling device. A Desvandre vacuum servo is interposed between the pedal and the master cylinders.

The motor is carried centrally in the chassis in a subfrarne mounted on four rubber bushes. A short propeller shaft with a needle-roller universal joint at each end connects the motor with the foremost rear axle, on which a third differential is mounted. The B.T.H. compound-wound motor is arranged for regenerative and rheostatic braking.

The body of the complete vehicle has a twin staircase serving the rear entrance and front exit, as in the case of the vehicles in operation at Bournemouth. The unladen weight is approximately 8 tons 12 cwt. 2 qrs., and the overall height (laden) of the trolleybus is 15 ft. .5i ins. motor anal low-voltage lighting equipmeat. As in the case of all trolley. buses of this make, Breclgnell-Willis lightweight collector gear is fitted.

Except for essential differences in dimensions the chassis layout follows closely that of the 111.3.2 model. The overall length is 27 ft, 6.ins., the overall width is 7 ft. 5i ins, and a turning circle of 58 ft. is obtained.

The wheelbase is 16 ft. 10 ins., and the frame height at platform level (laden) 1 ft. Unladen the vehicle turns the scale at about ri tons 11 cwt. .—Sunbeam Commercial Vehicles, Ltd., Moorfield Works, Wolverhampton.
