Trailer with Navel Suspension System and Bigcapacity Semitrailer Pantechnicon in Large Display

Stand 55

AN impressive exhibit that will undoubtedly attract considerable attention is the Brockhouse Kwikfiks pantechnicon • dropped-frame semitrailer', with a sturdy, but light, steel sliperstructure for mounting furniturevan bodywork. The vehicle is designed for 4-5-ton loads and the floor

height of only 18 ins, is a valuable feature in expediting loading and unloading.

The channel-steel frame is suitable for a body 22 ft. long by 7 ft. 4 ins. wide outside. A square-bed axle, equipped with tapered-roller bearings, carries wheels shod with 32-in. by 6-in. twin truck tyres. Bendix Duo-servo brakes are operated by the vacuumservo system controlled by the driver's foot brake.

E42 Another exhibit of more than passing interest is a torsion-bar-sprung trailer chassis for n-ton loads, in which the orthodox method of suspension has been superseded by an ingenious method of independent balancing for each wheel by means of a torsion bar. Incidentally, the Brockhouse concern holds the sole manufacturing rights for this type of trailer.

Reference should next be made to the low-loading two-wheeled trailer for livestock transport, suitable for use behind a private car. This trailer is built for 10-12-cwt. loads and incorporates a ramp at the rear, which, with a loading height of only 1 ft. 4 ins., provides an easy slope.

Amongst the wide range of trailers to be teen' on this stand is a 3-4-ton

platform model with a spring-loaded drawbar; a 5-ton four-wheeler having special braking equipment, and a special wheel-plate separating device for easy manhandling—an innovation of considerable importance—and special two-wheeled trailer. .

The last-named is for 10-12-cwt, loads and is similar to the type sup plied to the G.P.O. authorities. It has a low box body with double lids. The spare wheel is carried in •a cradle at the front, just beneath the point of attachment of the drawbar to the chassis.—J. Brockhouse and Co., Ltd., Victoria Works, Hill Top, West Bromwich.
