Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Lieut.-Col. J. COLVILLE,

Parliamentary Secretary, Department of Overseas Trade TN 1933, on the occasion of the last Commercial Vehicle Exhibition at Olympia, I had the pleasure of congratulating the commercial-vehicle industry, through the medium of The Commercial Motor, on the marked progress which the industry had made in export trade during the previous two years. On that occasion, I also expressed the hope that the indudry would maintain the position it had secured in the face of severe competition and in spite of the abnormal restrictions which hampered trade with many countries.

It is satisfactory to be able to record that the hopes I then expressed have been realized. I observe that not only has the export position been maintained, but that steady and continued progress has been made. The figures show an increase of 30% for the exports of 1934 over those of 1933, Loth as regards the numbers and value of commercial vehicles and chassis exported, whilst the figures for the first six months of 1935 show a continued increase over, those for the corresponding period of 1934. The industry is entitled to congratulate itself on this result which will, I trust, stimulate it to further efforts in the future.
