Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

After some years of active development the Gillett automatic clutch con trol was commercially launched this

week. The control unit is being made by the Borg and Beck Co., Ltd., at

its Leamington clutch factory, and this concern will look after manufacturers' supplies. Retail distribution to vehicle owners is handled by Gillett Auto Units, Ltd., Kingsbury House, 15-17 King Street, London, S.W.1. The Laystall Motor Engineering Works, Ltd., Southwark, S.E.1, has already been appointed sole fitting agent for the London district.

The control is a neat unit embody

ing an oil pump, piston and cylinder, valves and a governor ; the pump is driven from the engine and provides oil pressure on the piston to throw out the clutch when desired. This action occurs automatically at low speeds, also occurring whenever the driver grasps the gear-lever knob in readiness to change gear.

A short test satisfied us as to the prompt and smooth action of the de vice; getting away from a standstill was accomplished simply by opening the throttle and the slip period was very short. The reduction in driving fatigue, when physical operation of the clutch is obviated, is particularly marked on a heavy vehicle in thick traffic The control is shown by the Borg and Beck Co., Ltd., at Olympia (Stand 230).
