The system consists of a fifth-wheel unit and an axlemounting frame fitted on the trailer and linked by a steering bar. The steering angle is determined by the angle of the tractor unit in relation to the trailer. This is monitored by a wedge on the fifth wheel, which moves left or right when steering, forcing the bar to steer the rear axle. On a trailer where the steering bar can't be accommodated within the trailer l-beams, Tridec makes a hydraulic system.
