Although it was formed just after Palletline, Palletways has a very different structure to its rival, being a privately-owned company with no shareholders among the members. Group development director Craig Hibbert says: "This gives us more flexibility. If a shareholder was not performing, it might be more difficult to get them out."
Members must agree to operate within an ISO9oo2 accredited Code of Practice covering service levels, day-to-day procedures, IT, vehicle requirements and finance. A national consultation committee meets monthly to discuss operational issues. The group offers a storage and consolidated freight delivery service through its subsidiary Stargate Logistics. It also has ambitions in the rest of Europe, setting up Palletways Italia a year ago and currently developing a Benelux network.
