Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

el At least 15 York bus drivers face redundancy next month, unless the city and county councils dip into their pockets to subsidise extra routes.

AJS subsidiary York City & District has deregistered all Sunday services, together with a larger number of evening and early morning services in the city — both commercial and tendered.

The company says that the Sunday commercial routes were effectively subsidised by weekday operations.

Now North Yorkshire County Council and York City Council are canvassing operators to see what part of the services can be restored with the help of subsidies. Considerable funds will be needed simply to maintain present service levels.

YC&D is currently cutting back conventional services and increasing its minibus operation. It also plans to replace its central depot with four smaller sites in the suburbs.
