• General haulier Rochdale Freighter Service has closed down, following the loss of two major contracts at the end of last year.
The demise of the 19-yearold firm leaves 14 drivers redundant.
Rochdale Freighter Service is selling its 23 tractive units, seven trailers and 1,200m2 of warehousing and offices.
Owner Terry Duggan says the company reported a £100,000 profit in 1988 but following the loss of contracts worth £840,000 with Fort Sterling Paper and NFC subsidiary Newsflow he now has debts of £100,000.
"Hauliers are treated in a very shabby manner by the manufacturers," he says, "and there is not a lot of consideration from the Government, which does not appreciate how good the haulage industry is," adds Duggan.
