• A possible brake problem on the Iveco Ford Cargo, affecting almost 100,000 trucks in the UK, heads the latest list of vehicle recalls from the Department of Transport's Vehicle Inspectorate Executive Agency.
The latest list, which refers to the period from July to the end of December last year, includes truck models from AWD, Foden, Iveco Ford, Renault Scania, Seddon Atkinson and Volvo. There are three entries for PSV recalls, all on Scania chassis.
Possible deterioration of the foot brake control valve seal on the Iveco Ford Cargo could cause air leakage from the foot control valve and reduce or cut-off the air supply to the front or rear brakes. The recall on the Cargo covered 97,821 models built between 1 November 1980 and 2 November 1988.
Almost 5,000 of Scania's 3 Series trucks were subject to a steering-related recall. The problem concerned the steering column universal joint cups, which could work out of the top of the steering column, leading to excessive free-play in the steering. Without a re medy this could mean loss of steering control.
Almost 1,000 Seddon Atkinson Stratos were recalled because of a brake component problem which could lead to loss of braking effort, while recalls for steering problems affected 3,594 Foden 3000 and 4000 Series trucks, and 1,898 AWE) chassis.
