J. Harris will on April 1 succeed J. W. Morley as secretary of Lancashire United Transport Ltd. Mr. Morley retires as director and secretary after nearly 55 years service; Mr. Harris joined LUT in 1937. On March 1 T. Lloyd retired as traffic manager after 45 years' service, and has been succeeded by D. Rodgers from Walsall Corporation. J. Parlcinson, Previously technical assistant, has been made assistant engineer, succeeding S. Cawthorne who has been made principal engineer (operations) with Manchester Corporation.

C. R. Lynam has been elected chairman, West Midland division, Wolverhampton area, TRTA, and E. Hughes deputy chairman. D. Birch and W. French were elected vice-chairmen.

Nigel Bell, export manager of Always Welding Ltd., is among a team of experts from industry who will make up the London Chamber of Commerce mission to Kenya. Uganda and Tanzania from March 16 to April 4. Mr. Bell will also be visiting Johannesburg, South Africa.

S. Blower has been appointed manufacturing consultant, Rubery Owen and Co. Ltd. transport container division. Mr. Blower will promote the company's activity in containerization.

G. K. Tatterson has been appointed first divisional transport development officer. John Summers and Sons Ltd. (Scotttish and Northwest Group, British Steel Corporation). Mr. Tatterson's new post is linked with his recent appointment as Northwest Group transport co-ordinator. A. J. A. Steeley, raw materials manager and former assistant transport manager, becomes raw materials and transport manager.

J. A. E. Clogg, a director of Turner and Newall Ltd. for the past 101years, is to retire at the end of this month. Mr. Clogg will then have served 35 years with the Turner and Newell Group.

John G. McLean has been elected executive vicepresident, Continental Oil Cb. Ltd., by the board of directors.

John De Vero has been appointed commercial vehicle sales manager, Upminster Garages Ltd.. Ford. Commer and Dennis agents. Mr. De Vere was formerly commercial sales Manager, Dennis Bros. Ltd.

Dr. H. R. S. Jack has been appointed to the new post of company chief engineer, Triplex Safety Glass Co. Ltd. He will be based at the Kings Norton, Birmingham factory.

N. R. Gordon, service merchandising and training manager, Ford Motor Co., has joined the Motor Industry Education Consultative Committee working party.

• We regret to record the deaths of Arthur G. Curtis, George Edmund Dearing and Frank Lythgoe.

Mr. Curtis was for five years chairman of the East Midland Traffic Commissioners. and Licensing Authority, subsequently taking up a similar position in South Wales. His time in the East Midlands was noted for the fact that during his 1953-8 term not one of his decisions was reversed on appeal. He died in his Nottinghamshire home, aged 70.

Mr. Dearing, 56, was chairman of the East Midlands Passenger Transport Co-ordinating Committee and of the East Midlands Transport Users' Consultative Committee.

Mr. Lythgoe, 69, was Middlesbrough Corporation Transport manager for 30 years. When he retired in 1964 he was the Corporation's longest-serving Departmental chief.
