THE heavy haulage and machinery carriers' group of the Road Haulage Association has appointed Mr. E. W. Voller, of Cattermoles (Transport) Ltd.. as chairman for the coming year. Mr. A. James, of Henry Winfield (LB) Ltd. and Mr. J. Silbermann, of Hallett, Silbermann Ltd., have been appointed vice-chairmen.

In his report on the year's work of the group, the retiring chairman, Mr. 0. G. Wynn, of Robert Wynn and Sons Ltd.. referring to the new regulations covering the construction and use of vehicles. special-type vehicles, and lighting for long vehicles and trailers, warns operators to "keep an ever watchful eye on such possible sources of difficulty as the amended indemnity clause and the more complex situations relating to attendants".

The considerable increase in administrative and haulage costs resulting from the new regulations had forced the group committee to recommend appropriate rates increases to cover the additional costs_ "Generally, these have been applied and accepted fairly ", said Mr, Wynn.

Joint efforts by the group and the British Engineers Association had made the railways aware of the problems presented by overhead electrification to the carrier of abnormally high loads. Steps had been taken to provide reasonable facilities for these loads on level crossings, particularly on lines leading into Tilbury Docks.

I.R.U. Hauliers Meeting AT the meeting of the haulage section of the International Road Transport Union in Frankfurt on March 28-29, the Road Haulage Association will be represented by Mr. J. Murly, chairman of the international group, and Mr. R. H. Insoll, R.H.A. executive secretary.
