I T is believed that there is a likelihood of a change in the control of Westcliff-on-Sea Motor Services, Ltd., one of the largest independent concerns in the country. It is reported that some 90 per cent, of the shareholders have accepted an offer for the purchase a the £1 ordinary shares at £2 each, the acceptances representing over £100,000 of the company's capital of £125,000. At present, the name of the purchasers canna be revealed, although the names of several possible concerns come readily to mind.

The Westcliff concern runs over 100 buses on more than 20 routes.

W.W.O.C. OFFER TO NEWPORT.

NEWPORT (Mon.) Tramways Cornmittee has considered a letter from the Western Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd., offering to purchase the municipal transport undertaking. The committee decided to hear the company's proposals, although there was some opposition to the matter being considered even as a possibility.

Contingent upon the approval of the council, the W.W.O.C. will be asked to lay before the committee its detailed proposals, although such an invitation is not to be construed as showing willingness to sell the undertaking, subject to agreement concerning the price.

RYAN CLAIM HEARING ENDS.

fIN Tuesday, the London Passenger %-/Transport Arbitration Tribunal concluded the hearing of the claim of the Ryan Omnibus Co. for £24,099 (less £4,500, which has already been paid on account) by way of compensation for the transfer of its undertaking to London Transport. Stock to the value stated would produce an annual income equal to the company's average adjusted profit over three years.

c42 It was submitted, on behalf of the Board, that the Tribunal was restricted, under Section 14 of the London Passenger Transport Act, 1933, to the awarding of the value of the undertaking transferred.

MORE LICENCE-TRANSFER APPLICATIONS.

A MONGST the current applications I-16pr the transfer of licences are those of the Midland General Omnibus Co., Ltd., in respect of licences held by the Pinxton Bus Co., the Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., in connection with licences held by Kingfisher Services, Ltd., and H. S. North, Ltd., and the Yorkshire Traction Co., Ltd., regarding licences granted to B. and E. Coach Services, Ltd.

DAIMLERS TO REPLACE TRAMS.

THE replacement of Aberdare Urban District Council's tramways is to be carried out almost immediately by the employment of Daimler oilengined buses with Fluid Flywheels. A vehicle of this type was obtained for

• trial purposes in July of last year, and the results were highly satisfactory. Now nine additional Daimler buses are to be run in place of the trams.

CHEAPER DUNDEE TOURS?

A T a sitting of the Northern Scot1-11and Traffic Commissioners, on March 1, it was stated that the Dundee Charabancs Owners Association wished to reduce fares for evening tours.

MUNICIPAL BOARD PLAN APPROVED

ON Tuesday an amended scheme for the establishment of a joint municipal transport board for southeast Lancashire and part of Cheshire was approved, at Manchester, by a meeting of seven local authorities.

• A two-years' purchase of the gross revenues of each of the undertakings concerned is the basis of the transfer of the municipal transport systems to the proposed board, according to the report of financial experts. The total purchase price would be £7,709,350, Manchester's figure being £4,514,490, Salford £1,098,088, Oldham £524,472, Rochdale £424,580, Stalybridge (Joint Board) £226,348, Ashton-under-Lyne £197,438, and Bolton £723,934.

A further conference will be held after the various parties have considered a report dealing with the financial aspect. Bury and Stockport were originally to be included, but have now declined to participate. Leigh and Wigan were represented at the first discussion, but have since been omitted, as their services de not touch Manchester.

"SOUTHERN VECTIS " EXPANDS.

I T is understood that the Southern 1,Tectis Omnibus Co., Ltd., has taken over the services of Messrs. Browns' buses, operating over three routes in the Isle of Wight. Messrs. Brown owned 12 vehicles.
