The Appeal Tribunal sat at Newcastle a few days ago when the result of the appeal of the London and North Eastern Railway Co., against a decision by the Northern Licensing Authority• to grant a licence for three extra vehicles to E. Robson (Gateshead), Ltd., of Newcastle, was announced. The chairman said that an Order would be made on the Authority to vary the decision by authorizing the acquisition of two additional 5-tonners, instead of
three. .
A Booklet on Taxation.
• The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has recently issued a useful booklet entitled "Taxation of Motor Vehicles in Great Britain and Northern Ireland as at January 1, 1935." Thebooklet is fully indexed and covers not only the annual tax payable on each class of vehicle, but gives details of the part-yearly licences, as well as the chief definitions of items affecting taxation. The booklet may be obtained from the Society, at 83, Pall Mall, London, S.W.1, the price per copy being 6d.
German Sales Doubled in 1934.
There was a marked improvement, during last year, in the demand for new goods vehicles and buses in Germany, the number of new vehicles registered for the first time in the country in 1934 having been preliminarily returned at 23,509 units, as compared with 11,573 in 1933 and 7,030 in 1932. The largest number of the vehicles was supplied by the Opel Co.. with 6,244 to its credit, followed by Hansa-Lloyd and Goliath with 3,166, Ford 1,892, Bussing-N.A.G. 1,577, Krupp 845, Magirus 842, Tempo 709 and M.A.N. 664.
Lines Hauliers Oppose Wages Agreement.
The Lincolnshire Transport Association has unanimously adopted a resolution expressing disapproval of the conditions under which hauliers have to work-particularly with regard to wages-dissatisfaction with the unrepresentative composition, as well as the " unjust' recommendations, of the National Joint Conciliation Board, and desiring that immediate steps be taken to remedy the present state of affairs.
Preventing Rust and Corrosion in the Water System.
A solution, known as Rustine, especially prepared for addition to the radiator water for the cleansing of the cooling system and the prevention of corrosion, has been placed on the market by the Vigzol Oil Refining Co. (London), Ltd., Bilton House, 113, Park Street, London, W.I.
It is claimed that this solution seals those places where corrosion has previously entered, and prevents blockage and consequent overheating. One tin, costing 2s., is said to be sufficient to treat a cooling system of moderate capacity and remain effective for a period of at least three months. It can be used in conjunction with antifreezing mixtures.
