Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

.AVERY good example of the manner in. which the.carrying capacity and loading space of a chassis of medium size can be used to the best advantage is indicated by, the accompanying illustration of a Garner van recently supplied by Henr7. Garner, Ltd., Tyseley, to the Peacock .Tdittile Co., of Dudley Road, Birmiugham.. The chassis consists of the makers' standard AEO model, which is a 2-2i-tonner, equipped with 32-in. by 6-in, pneumatic tyres on the front wheels and 84-in. by 7-in.. tyres of the same kind on the rear wheels.

The van body has been constructed to set dimensions, . these being, length behind driver's cab 14 ft. 8 ins., width 6 ft. 4 ins: and height 7 ft 8 ins, giving a capacity of 760 cubic ft.. with additional loading space immediately above the driver's cab. It was necessary that the body should be construeted to these measurements by reason of the fact that the purchasers of the vehicle have to deal with hampers and crates of uniform size. Moreover, because of their comparatively light weight it was necessary to use a large-size body in order, that a ftill load should closely approximate the carrying capacity of the chassis and thus enable transport costs to be kept down to an economic level. The main area of the body is used • for carrying the crates and hampers, the space above the cab being intended for loose packages or small bales.

The Italy is constructed of matchboarding over ash framework, and is made waterproof by a special covering having a smooth finish. Although the dimensions of the body are large, the appearance of the vehicle is proper*mate. The loading space is perfectly clear, for the wheel arches do not protrude into the interior.

The patent Garner hinged front wings form part of the design of the vehicle and, as is generally known, this excellent feature, which enables the side members of the driver's cab to te swung outwards with the footboards and mudguards, ensures that the main engine anxiliaries can readily be reached. We are told that the van is intended

mainly for long-distance work and that it .will make regular, journeys between Birmingham, Cardiff and Swansea. It is commendable, therefore, that it has been thought -fit to study the comfort of the driver, who is not only provided with a comfortable seat, but is assured complete protection from. the weather by the use. of a full-width screen and rigidside curtains, although the latter equipment is•ficitshown in-'our picture.
