Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Trailer builder Stevecastle of Oundle, near Peterborough, was fined £1,000 with £908 costs at Shrewsbury Crown Court last month for supplying a 220,000 trailer with a false trade description.

The trailer concerned was ordered at the start of last year by Blackrnore Haulage of Shewsbury, which wanted a three-axle tipping trailer to operate at 38 tonnes. It was delivered in April. But by July the chassis appeared to have twisted.

Consulting engineer Robert Widgery told the court that the chassis had distorted at the six points where it was attached to the suspension air bags.

Stevecastle mangaging director Raymond Wilcox accepted that the trailer was faulty and that the suspension unit was not strong enough, but said his company had checked the chassis for alignment when it arrived to ensure that the body and tipping gear fitted.

John Greenbourne, for Stevecastle, said that the costs of the case could mean the end of the company.
