Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Scania has entered the very competitive 24-ton-gvw market with the announcement of its latest LBS 85 H 6 X 2 model. The new truck will have its first UK showing at the Three Counties Show to be held at Malvern from June 12 to June 14.

The first version to be introduced will be a long-wheelbase (19ft 5+in) chassis intended for bodywork up to 30ft long. A shorter wheelbase (14ft 3+in.) will be introduced later. The bogie, with a Spread of 1.515 meters (4ft 1 liin.) is plated at 18 tons and the front axle at 6.5 tons, giving a half-ton loading tolerance at 24 tons gvw. Unladen weight of the longer chassis is given as 6 tons 18cwt so that at 24 tons gvw a 16-ton payload should be possible with a light platform body.

The standard spiral bevel single reduction rear axle is available in three ratios of 4.38, 4.86 and 5.67 to 1 giving top speeds of 64, 60 and 58 mph respectively at 2400 rpm on 10.00— 20 tyres.

The new vehicle is basically an LB 80 and shares its tilt cab, engine and gearbox. The engine is the DS8 turbo-charged eight-litre type developing 192 bhp and 477 lb ft torque to BSAU 141a:1971. The gearbox is the GS 10-speed splitter type.

A tipper version is to follow but Scania does not say whether or not it is to be a 6 x 4.
