• Daimler-Benz and the Austrian company Steyr Daimler-Puch have decided to extend their co-operation together to the development, production and sale of certain commercial vehicles and buses. It will, however, be some years before any vehicles, resulting from the co-operation, appear on the market. Motor Vehicles (Type Approval) Regulations 1973 and the exemptions apply where the type of vehicle or component has been granted approval to European Economic Community standards.
The exemptions are necessary because of the difference between the requirements of the Regulations and the equivalent EEC directives and the obligation to allow vehicles meeting EEC standards to be sold and used in all member states, including the U.K.
The amending Regulations also provide for the inclusion of a DoE code number on the vehicle plate to identify the vehicle type at testing stations.
