Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AIR COMPRESSOF SHEER weight of competition made last Sunday's Lorry Driver round at Manchester a contest calling for exceptional skill by the individual. In the face of an entry of over 150 drivers, H. J. Bramwell (Pease Transport, Ltd., Liverpool), driving a Foden, outstandingly achieved his third successive class premier and with it, this time, an area win. His figure of merit was 104% and his marks lost were 113.

Apart from. the Manchester district 12epresentative, the competitors hailed from Chester, Liverpool, SOuthport, Heysham, Cblne, Blackpool, Sandbach and as tar away -as ApplebY, Westrrior: land, -all; Of Which Meant that the day took;

On More the character Of a 'regional round than an area eliminator.

New Venue Next Time?

There Would appear to be ami3le space at : the ; venue, the Lancashire County Cricket ground at Old Trafford, for all the vehicles associated with the event: but 'lorries and cars were spread over neighbouring streets and on Waste land in the -Vicinity; a situation which suggests that Matters would work out better if another round could be run Somewhere in the North West to reduce the obvious pressure on Manchestpi.

In order to expedite the proceedings, arrangements had been made to duplicate the third test, but relatively little use was made of the facility. Even when the tests finished there was' wait of over 14`hours before. any results whatever were nnounccd.

No Information

Contrary to the Usual practice on these . .

occasions, there was no information . available during the day regarding the progress of the classes; most drivers, in fact,. left -without having the satisfaction Of knowing what marks they had lost, and Where.

D: Bailey (McVitie and . Price: Ltd.. Leyland Comet), a competitor in ClasS H, showed Up well at the outset by preserving: a clean sheet on the Highway Code examination and followed this by also covering the route test without loss of mark,' so becoming 'the only driver to score. a ," double.'! His penalty of .113 marks on the driving tests still left him at the head of his class. Lowest penalty marks of the (lay (65) were t,:.{,iorciA by Bramwell's. "team .mate H._ S. 'Hunt (Austin) who was best in Class C and also winner of the C-licence award. Be.st-diesel driver was B. Lewis (British Oxygen Co., Ltd., Bedford) with a loss of 94. • • Karrier Bantams of the Manchester City, Surveyor's -Department, piloted by E. Lister, J." Fitton and F. Coley, constituted, the best -.of the 35 teams with a total loss of .335 points, The level of performance at the.parking tests . was-. generally excellent, while the standard of width 'judging was on the whole a good, deal better than has been seen on similar occasions recently. The hay test is destined to be something of a decider—and indeed it was on Sunday. Among notably good efforts observed here were those by A. J. Cooke (Pease Transport,' Ltd.,Foden), who proved the winner of Class E(2), of F. Barber (Beecham Food. Ltd., Leyland), J. Brazendale (British Road Services, Ltd., ;Leyland), winner of Class F(1), A. James (Pease Transport, Ltd:, Bedford), who was second in F(l), and by Bramwell, the overall winner. But quite frequently at other times the barriers were sent flying.
