Fi"years ago Crow Carrying Co., Ltd., Harts Lane, Barking, opened their new workshop, thus completing the first stage of a five-year building programme. The second stage was reached in October, 1952, when a new office block and garage were added.

Last week saw the completion of the final and most extensive part of the building programme, the structures added being two garages and a filling station.

Each garage is 200 ft. long with a span of 90 ft.—two of the largest in the n26 country. The storage capacity of the filling station is for 5,000 gal. of dery in two 2,500-gal. tanks and for 2,000 gal. of petrol in a two-compartment tank.

For vehicle and road tank cleaning there is a Laycock two-gun highpressure washer and a Weaver steam jenny.

The company run 155 vehicles, but they are not all based on the Barking

depot, which, despite its size, holds only half the fleet under cover.

In reply to a speech made at the opening by Mr. Herbert Crow, chairman and managing director, Cllr_ W. I-I. Roycraft, deputy mayor of Barking, said that, whilst he did not believe in free enterprise, if it had to be, the Crow, concern was an example to follow.

The business was started by Mr. Latimer Crow, father of the present chairman, 36 years ago, and one of the original drivers of the three. vehicles then operated, is still with the company,
