MR. J. T. Witirrix, a coach proprietor and senior partner in the firm of Messrs. J. T. Whittle and Son, of Highley and Kidderminster, has been elected chairman of Bridgnorth Rural District Council.
MR. M. WHITFIELD, general sales director, Standard Motor Co., Ltd., is visiting South Africa with MR. C. L. P. EDMONDS, export sales manager. MR I. A. CHRISTENSEN, export commercial manager, has returned from a trip to South America.
MR. F. E. HILTON has been re-elected chairman of the Yorkshire (Hull and East .Riding) Division of the Traders' Road Transport Association. MR. H. HODSON and MR. L. MOAT have been re-appointed vice-chairmen, and MR. J. PICKERING honorary treasurer.
MR. N. T. O'REitty was last week re-elected chairman of the Finance Committee of the Road Haulage Association. MR. JAMES BARRIE, former national chairman, succeeded Mil. D. 0. GOOD as vice-chairman of the committee. Mr. Good is now a national vice-chairman of the Association.
MR. ALEX FRASER, vice-chairman and managing director of Girling, Ltd., accompanied by MR. JOE KINCHIN, director and chief engineer, is leaving tomorrow on a 10-day visit to the United States. Among other Angagements, they will be visiting the National Truck and Trailer Equipment Show in Los Angeles next week.
THE HoN. E. P. OKOYA, Minister Of Transport, and DR. THE HON. W. N. ONLTBOGU, Minister of Development, of the Eastern Regional Government of Nigeria, are due to arrive in London on June 10, in connection with the recruitment of civil engineers for Nigeria. They will be accompanied by MR. W. D. B. KINGSTON, Director of Public Works.

MR.. W. A. GREATREX has been elected chairman of the West Midland Area of the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association. Ma. H. W. B. RICHARDS and MR. F. G. EATON are vice-chairmen.
MR. J. W. WATKINS has been appointed a full-time member of the British Transport Commission. Mr. Watkins, who is 65, will relinquish his post of general manager of the London Midland Region of British Railways on assuming his new duties.
MR. H. V. SCHOFIELD, sales director of the Chloride Electrical Storage Co., Ltd., has retired from active duties but retains his seat on the board. He joined the company in 1914 and became a director in 1942. MR. EDWARD POWELL, director and sales manager of Chloride Batteries, Ltd., since 1951, has become general sales manager of the group. MR. A. C. STEWART, who became assistant sales manager last year, now assumes full responsibility as sales manager of Chloride Batteries, Ltd.
NEW INDIA DEVELOPMENTS
ANEW technical centre, and extensions to the existing factory of the India Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd., at Inchinnan, were officially opened by Lord Bilsland last Friday. The technical centre, which is designed to test raw materials and tyre components, comprises a design department and chemical and physical laboratories.
