APPLYING to the Metropolitan Licensing Authority for eight additional vehicles of 21-ton capacity, Gayfew Transport, Ltd., 14, South Lambeth Road, London, S.W.8, revealed that since 1946, when the business was founded, turnover had more than trebled. In the first nine months of operation, the concern's haulage turnover had been £8,800; in the financial year ended March 31 last, the haulage turnover had risen to £25,571.

01 this total, 01,649 was put down to hired vehicles. Evidence was produced to show not only the actual amount of hiring which had taken place, but also the number of vehicles per day, week and month which had been sought and had not been obtained. At present, only seven vehicles were authorized, The unsuitability of the hired vehicles for the customers of Gayfew Transport, Ltd., was also discussed. It was indicated that most of the increased tonnage carried came from the original customers with whom the concern had first dealt and whose business was also rapidly expanding. In each case the customers required transport of a special nature, most of the goods carried needing skilled handling.

After taking evidence from Mr. W. Gaylaw, one of the founders of the concern, the hearing adjourned until July 4.
