rogerbrownfarbi.co.uk WARBURTONS SCOTLAND was one of the major winners at the 2010 Brake Fleet Safety Forum Awards held last week.The bakery won the Safe Vehicles Award, while Dave McLagan, driver trainer Scotland at the company, won the prize for Road Safety Academy Ambassador of the Year.
Warburtons has introduced spot-checks on vehicles leaving depots to make sure drivers have carried out pre-drive checks.
The company uses a static vehicle with pre-set defects for remedial training, and all managers are put through VOSA training and sent to public inquiries to give them an insight into what can happen if the firm is non-compliant.

Balfour Beatty Plant and Fleet Services won the Road Safety in the Community Award. while its sister firm, Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions, was joint winner with Ocado of the Company Driver Safety Award.
Loughborough-based ETS Distribution, which won the Eco Fleet Award, was praised for being the top-ranking company on the governmentfunded FleetWave programme for miles-pergallon achieved by its truck fleet. It has achieved a 3% year-on-year reduction in fuel usage, despite a mileage increase of 7%, and its carbon footprint has also dropped well below the industry average.
The Michelin X One Maxi-Trailer tyre won the Fleet Safety Product Award for its -innovative design" and "demonstrable results" in improving the safety of truck trailers through a reduced risk of rollovers.
Am Pall, fleet director at CitySprint, won the Road Risk Manager of the Year Award. He has introduced risk management initiatives including driver selection and training programmes that have produced lower crash rates and insurance claims.
