Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DAF'S EAGERLY awaited 13litre Euro-4 heavy truck diesel engine will make its official debut at the Hanover Show in September.

While the Dutch manufacturer is playing its cards close to its chest, CM understands that the new inline six will feature an SCR system (as adopted by Volvo, see page 18-19) to tackle the reduced emissions target of Euro-4 and that it is much more than a bored-out version of the current 12.6-litre XE engine used in the CF85 and XF95 models.

As well as offering a bigger displacement, the 13-litre is also expected to boast a top power rating above the current maximum 530hp from the XE engine. The Hanover display unit will not be shown in a chassis hut as a bare engine. However, 1.1K operators keen to get their hands on the new diesel will probably have to wait until 2006 before it appears in any real numbers. The first units are likely to be sold in Germany where there are financial incentives for the early adoption of Euro-4 engines.

The new engine's low emission technology will also be carried over onto the current 9.2-litre engine used in the CF75.

• The adoption of the "Six Sigma" quality control system by Leyland Trucks has allowed the wholly owned UK manufacturing subsidiary of Paccar to save 5% on annual operational costs every year since 1998 it says.
