COLLEAGUE lain Sherriff, striding across the West Country last week on a story, came to Bristol, where the Town House is approached up a long colonnaded drive. At the head, in front of main entrance, are parking spaces to left and right. On the left is one marked: ".Reserved for Mayor", on the right: "Reserved for Sheriff". Guess where he parked! He would have got away with it, too, only he had the wrong number of r's in his name.
