OTTINGHAM bade a sentimental farewell to its last trolleybus last week, when the last vehicle in service carried the Lord Mayor and other civic leaders over the same route as had been taken by the very first trolley in the city. At the end of the road it was met by the driver of the first one, 39 years ago, Frederick Kirkham, now 69, who recalled that people were a bit apprehensive about the trolleys' acceleration. Transport committee chairman, Sir Sidney Hill, did some crystal-gazing when he commented that one era had passed and we were moving into another; "In twenty years' time we might be talking about monorails..."
