Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BECAUSE his customers wished rates to be kept as keen as possible, Mr. G. H. Nixon, of Stoke-on-Trent, applied last week for 10 additional A-licensed vehicles, eight of which were at present specified on a B licence. The hearing was adjourned.

Mr. G. C. Tinsdill, for the applicant, sought to add the vehicles to an existing three-vehicle A licence with a normal user of: "Building materials, refractory materials and chemicals in Scotland, Yorkshire, Lancashire, South Wales, North Eastern Counties, London and Midlands."

British Railways and British Road .Services objected.

Mr. Nixon said that in 1964 the vehicles earned £35,069 and this rose to £37,075 in 1965. The existing fleet was fully occupied, and he had to sub-contract substantially.

For BRS, Mr. J. Simpson said his clients were concerned because they carried substantial amounts of refractory and building materials. There had been no details of actual tonnages and earnings for these specific traffics.

The applicant was asked to produce additional figures at the resumed hearing, on a date to be fixed.
