A LORRY which a traffic examiner saw tiparked at Bethnal Green, London, E.2, was, according to the driver's records, supposed to be on its way back from Edinburgh, said Mr. John Haines, prosecuting, at Thames magistrates 'court, last week. The owners of the vehicle, Ronson Furniture, Ltd., trading as Dwell Industrial Products, pleaded guilty to five charges of failing to canse current records to be kept in respect of twO lorries, and were .fined a total of £10, with £15 costs.

From the records one vehicle had made a three-day journey to Edinburgh and back, but one of these days was When the lorry was seen in London, said Mr. Haines. Physically, the journey was impossible, he added, and the slightest degree of , checking by the company would have shown that the driver's record could not have been other than false.

Another company driver was stopped at Preston and found to have no records, said Mr. Haines, who added that the company was fined for similar offences in February, 1958.

Defending, Mr. A. Owens said that the company had given instructions to ifs drivers to keep careful records. " But the company is entirely in the hands of the drivers," he claimed.
