Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

L'A'SON between the Road Haulage Assoeiation and the Road Haulage' Executive will he facilitated by the amalgamation of the Metropolitan and South Eastern Areas of the R.H.A., which came into force last Friday. The new Metropolitan and South Eastern Area covers a region coinciding approximately „with the South Eastern Division of the R.H.E.

The need for 'economy is another reason for the merger, but the R.H.A. states that service to Members will not stiffer.

In the past, the Metropolitan Area has had six sub-areas and a committee of 32 Members, in addition to the chairman. It had 15 representatives on the national council. The South Eastern Area had 15 sub-areas and a conimittee of 30, with four representatives on the national council.

The new area committee will comprise 15 members from the southeast and 32 from the Metropolis. Steps will be taken to allow for pro rata representation of the South Eastern Area art the various sub-committees.

• For the time being. 15 Metropolitan and four South Eastern members will continue to serve on the national council until a general reduction in the council takes place. The joint areas will nominate two representatives to the executive committee.

A statement signed by Mr. C. W. H. Sparrow, chairman of the Metropolitan Area, and Mr. H.. E. Brown, chairman of the South Eastern Area, says that in its approach to the question_ of amalgamation, the Metropolitan Area Was particularly mindful of the problems peculiar to rural hauliers.

T"pre-war coach connection of United -Automobile Services, Ltd., between West Hartlepool and London is to be restored. The journey takes 12 hours and costs little more than half the railway fare. The service will pick up at Stockton and Middlesbrough.

In the past, Tees-side passengers wishing to travel by road to London have had to use the Newcastle-London coach, which Called at Middlesbrough but was often full on reaching there.
