00MPETING against 17 foreign coaches, a British vehicle owned by Sheffield United Tours, Ltd., won the first prize in the first rally of the International Tourism Lourd at Montreux, Switzerland, on June 26. With the award went a large pewter-jug trophy, which was won outright. This was presented by the Conseil d'Etat du Canton de Vaud. The total possible number or points 4,000, and the winner gained 3,110, the runner-up achieving 2,500.

The chassis was a standard A.E.C. Mark ill, with 9.6-litre oil engine and pre-selective gearbox. To it was fitted a Windover 30-seater body with standard seating upholstered in moquette with leather edging, full-drop windows. double' panel sliding roof, and rear entrance. The equipment included an Ekco radio and public-address system.

The driver was highly complimented on the elegance of the bodywork and the very efficient machanical condition. He and the courier each received a Swiss award, and the driver was the guest of honour at a luncheon of the Swiss Motor Club.

There was only just time to enter the vehicle for the contest. While at Lucerne, advice was received that if it could be at Montreux by 5 p.m. same day, it could be entered. Special permission was given for it to travel over a mountain route, the Col de Piflon, instead of following the main road through Berne, and it arrived at Montreux just 14 minutes before the entries closed.
