• The Hull and District Road Transport Industry Training Group—among pioneers of group training schemes two years ago—have come up with a new idea.
A committee has been formed under the chairmanship of one of their instructors, Mr Harold Rennard, to investigate the appointment of a welfare and social officer. It is planned that he would look after the welfare and social interests of about 1300 commercial vehicle drivers in Hull.
One of the first tasks of the new man would be to organize a social club. "We are one of the largest industries in Hull," says Mr Rennard, "and we cannot even boast a club where the men can get together."
Most of the group's 22 employers are said to be keen on the idea, and Mr Rennard claims 75 per cent of drivers already approached are in favour of the scheme which would be financed by a 2s a week levy.
