OUR prize-winner this week is Mr. H. Sutton, of Leeds. He says that he has experienced difficulty in obtaining replacemept parts for the venturi crossshaft and bracket on certain B.M.C. engines. He devised the following method of reclaiming the worn parts. First, two or three plain washers were brazed onto the inside of the cross-shaft bracket, keeping them centralized by means of a long bolt or a piece of mild steel rod of the appropriate diameter passed through the bracket and the washers. There was no need to build up the worn cross-shaft, as when re-assembled the bearing surface was on the unworn part of the shaft.
Mr. Sutton says that he has found this method useful on several other applications, such as the accelerator relay shaft and gear selector relay lever on Bedford TKs. The washers are brazed to the outside of the bracket in the case of the accelerator relay shaft.
