THE take-over of Alfred Bell Ltd., of Newcastle upon Tyne, and branches by Drake Carriers Ltd. is imminent. Alfred Bell operates some 90 vehicles, mostly on A licence. The company was established before the last war and was initially concerned with furniture removals, but has expanded in scope and size since then, now offering extensive storage and distribution facilities, as well as undertaking warehousing, haulage and furniture removals.

Mr. H. F. Marks, managing director of Alfred Bell, will retain his position under the new arrangement. He told The Commercial Motor this week that things would continue as before.

Drake Carriers, formerly the Plymouth Transport Co. Ltd., is owned 51 per cent by Western Motor Holdings Ltd. and 49 per cent by Cravens Industries Ltd., a subsidiary of John Brown and Co. Ltd,
