Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A STRADDLE carrier which can be

driven over a semi-trailer, lift the container and carry it away, is now in service in Honolulu. Designed by the special. products engineering department of the Ilyster Co., U.S.A., the carrier is more than 26 ft. high, over 12 ft. wide and 24 ft. long.

It is used to lift large aluminium containers, developed for trans-Pacific shipments, on and off semi-trailers and narrow-gauge Hawaiian railwayflatwagons. The containers, which arc 8 ft. wide, 8 ft. 6. in. high and 24 ft. long, are raised by means of a hoist frame at the top of the carrier. Hydraulically operated hooks drop into receptacles at each corner of the load.

A clearance of 14 ft. allows the carrier to raise the containers up to 5 ft. from the ground. The maximum lifting capacity is 20 short tons, and the machine is capable of speeds of up to 25 m.p.h.
