IT was stated at Leeds last week that 1,840 gallons of milk delivered by tanker did not appear to be fit for human consumption, when Bulk Liquid Transport, Ltd„ Gildersome, Leeds, were fined £10 on charges of using a tanker to carry milk when it was not kept clean.
It was said that on July 27 the manager of the Barnsley British Cooperative Society's dairy complained to Mr. W. H. Spalton, chief public health. inspector at Barnsley, about the condition of the milk.
The report of the public, analyst in Sheffield showed that the milk was unfit for human consumption and possessed "an objectionable chlorinous taste." It was discovered later that a valve on a compressor unit in the tanker, which had not been cleaned properly, had been
opened by a driver. Milk became contaminated when it flushed over the compressor unit.
It was also stated that 12,500 bottles of milk, filled from a delivery made by the same tanker the previous day, had to be poured away.
For the company it was stated that the foreman responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicle had been dismissed. Supervision had been made a managerial responsibility.
ICEIGHLEY PROFITS UP
KEIGHLEY ratepayers will benefit by £9.288, the local authority's halfshare of the profits of the KeighleyWest Yorkshire Services, Ltd., for the year ended September 30. This is an increase of £706 on last year's figure.
