Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TWO new types of bus have been designed by the Canadian Car Co.. Montreal, Canada, and both are fitted with A.E.C. AV690 oil engines, mounted transversely at the rear. The standard buses will have normally aspirated engines which develon 165 b.h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m., but a turbocharged version increasing the power by up to 30 per cent. is likely to be offered as alternative equipment, particularly for inter-city application. Holset-Schwitzer blowers are to be used.

The smaller of the new buses is the TD-43. It has an overall width of 8 ft. and seats 43 passengers, whereas the other model—the TD-51—is 8 ft. 6 in. wide and seats 51. Both types have integral construction and Can-Car Air Ride air suspension, but differ from earlier models in having lower floor lines, increased window areas and plastics interior panels.

To afford good access to the forward side of the engine, the power unit is installed at an angle of 45° to the 832 vertical: this also reduces the height of the installation. Spicer torque converters are used for the city buses, but a mechanical transmission may be adopted for the turbocharged models because of the high torque output to be absorbed.

Tests so far carried out show that a saving in operating costs of up to 20 per cent. may be realized with these new buses. Improvements in design have resulted in a weight reduction of 1,500 lb. compared with equivalent Can-Car CD models, which had underfloor engines.

NEW FRENCH TRAFFIC LAWS
