D ECEIPTS of the East Kent Road Car

Co., Ltd., in the year ended September 30, 1959, were disappointing, particularly when the fine summer was borne in mind, Mr. R. P. Beddow, chairman, said at the annual general meeting last week. He blamed competition from private vehicles and electrified failway services.

The tours business progressed .steadily and represented a profitable part of the company's operations. "Mileage operated by East Kent coaches in the Dolomites and other districts in Western Europe helps to provide winter services, unremunerative in themselves, in such places as Dymchurch and other villages in East Kent," he remarked.

More one-man buses were being used on stage services. Twenty-six rearentrance single-deckers were converted to front-entrance types for this purpose. The concern now had more than 100 vehicles adapted for one-man operation.

Forty double-deckers with 72 seats, front entrances and mechanically operated doors controlled by the driver, were brought into service last year, and an equal number of old vehicles was disposed of.
