FFICIENCY of oil-engined buses 1--Aand the high cost of operating eight-wheeled bogie tramcars • are stressed in a report by Mr. W. H. Legh-Smith, Liverpool city treasurer, on the financial position of Liverpool's transport undertaking. He states that the 'traffic revenue is steadily increasing, chiefly on account of the rapidly rising bus receipts and Mileage:-Due --principally to the

The net debt outstanding on capital account at March • 31 • last was £1,305,045. Capital expenditure this year is likely to be £472,000. Last year, working . expenses rose, by £81,000 to. £1,350,000, but the use of • oil-engined buses, instead of petrol vehicles, has resulted in a 'substantial saving. .
' This year's surplus may fall to £79,000. and next year's profit -to £49,500, dile mainly to the high cost of operating the eight-'heeled trams'..

LAST OF LONDON'S N.S. BUSES.
LONDON TRANSPORT has a 1./ crowded programme of works for this year. Among other developments, the last of the N.S: buses, which were first introduced in 1923, will be withdrawn, when 2,500 older-type vehicles will have been discarded since the Board was established.
The conversion of tramways to trolleybus operation will continue, and the Board will seek the authority of Parliament to abolish all tramways in London.
