Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the Ford .1...Motor Co., Ltd., Allan Taylor and Co., High Street, Wandsworth, London, S.W.18, has recently had the novel experience Of supplying a vehicle to the Ford concern for use at its works at Dagenham.. The machine in question is intended for the collection of the metal turnings and other scrap material in the work's and its conveyance to the waste dump, and has been specially adapted for the purpose.

Using a standard Ford 8 h.p. chassis, the final transmission has been modified to the extent that the usual wire rear wheels have been replaced by steel disc wheels, shod with 32-in. by 6-in. pneumatics and are supported on a fixed axle.

The usual bevel-driven live axle with differential is located slightly above and forward of the fixed axle—the latter carries the load — and has mounted on its ends spur pinions which mesh with internally toothed rings secured to the special hubs of the rear wheels. The whole of the additional gearing is enclosed and runs in oil.

The chassis is fitted with an opentopped hopper body, capable of carrying loads up to 30 cwt.: the tipping ear equipment is operated by hand.

• The 8 h.p. chassis was selected for the work for the reason that its width • is such that it is possible for the vehicle to be driven along the workshop passages, .the additional reduction gear in the transmission enabling it to travel at a slow speed.
