and solid bars, is now offered by the Glacier Metal Co., Ltd., Alperton, Middlesex. These are intended for the manufacture of bushes, half-bearings, thrust washers, etc., running under conditions of heavy loading, or in circumstances liable to promote excessive wear.

They are ground externally and broached internally to fine limits, the object being to eliminate, or at least to minimize, expenditure on account of the following causes : Material, machining, tool wear, Wastage through defective metal, etc. Thus, despite the high first cost of lead bronze, the 'actual total expenditure involved is little if any higher than in the case of the use of rough castings or extruded sections of cheaper metal.

The advantages of lead bronze are well known. The Glacier range of lead-bronze bars includes material in sizes from in. to 6 ins, in external diameter, increasing by 1 in. up to

31 ins, and then by in. Inside diameters increase by ./ in. from a 1-in. minimum. All pieces are 7 ins. long. Prices range from 2s. 6d. for a 1-in.diameter 1-in.-bore bush to 24s. for a 6-in, piece with 5-in. bore.
