A.R.O. EAST MIDLAND MEMBERS WALK OUT. •
A.R.O. East Midland Area hauliers' sectional board has resigned en bloc. Negotiations with the C.M.U.A. are understood to be in an advanced stage. It is hoped that further information will he available next week as to the steps which are being taken to protect the interests of hauliers who wish to join that Association. The decision to resign was reached at a recent meeting of the hauliers' sectional board, at Nottingham. The meeting was representative of every sub-area of the East -Midland Area, except Aylesbury, and a resolution in favour of complete withdrawal from A.R.O. was passed unanimously.. This step follows closely upon the resignations from the National Council of the two elected representatives of the East Midland Area--Mr. W. Donaldson Wright, of Nottingham, and Mr. L. J. Rix, of Derby. Mr. E. 0. Gray, ot Nottingham, area honorary secretary, has resigned; his successor is announced on the next page.
Reasons for the Merger Breakdown.
A full statement concerning the breakdown of the merger between the C.M.U.A. and A.R.O. is to be given at a mass meeting of the C.M.U.A. London and Home Counties Division, to be held on Thursday next (January 14), at River Plate House, South Place, London, E.C.2, at 7.30 p.m. The speakers will be Col. Arthur Jerrett, president, C.M.U.A.; Mr. F. G. Bristow, general secretary, C.M.U.A.; Mr. F. F. Fowler, late honorary treasurer, A.R.O.; and Mr. J. L. Kinder, national organizer, C.M.U.A. Mr. W. A. Winson, chairman of the C.M.U.A. London and Home Counties Division, will preside.
A.R.O. Nominations to Transport Council.
It is understood that the passenger section of A.R.O. has nominated Mr. S. E. Garcke as representative of roadpassenger-transport interests on the Transport Advisory Council. Mr. Garcke already holds a seat on the Council, which is a body formed with the object of advising the Minister of Transport. It is also understood that the hauliers' sectional board of A.R.O. has recommended the appointment of Mr. Anthony Todd and Mr. H. J. Lloyd, prominent members of the left wing of the Association, to positions on the Council.
Maintaining Rates in North Wales.
Tenders for council Work in the Montgomeryshire area are in future to be maintained at agreed rates. Members of Montgomeryshire and District Bus and Road Haulage Association have arranged to make their quotations through the Association officials, who will be responsible for seeing that all charges listed are in accordance with the operators' agreement. It is understood that the various aspects of council work in North Wales are being carefully watched, with a view to attention being called to cases where working conditions are not in accordance with contracts.
C.M.U.A. to Hold Quarterly Conferences.
Pursuing its policy of obtaining unified action from all sections of its organization, the C.M.U.A. is to hold quarterly conferences of qua all divisional and area secretaries and organizers. Wherever possible, these will be attended by Mr. J. L. Kinder, national organizer, and the .first conference is to be held in Manchester on January 12.
It is announced that Bouts-Tillotson Transport, Ltd.. has become a member of the A.R.O.
