Messrs. Hedges and Butler, Ltd., the -King's wine merchants, of Regent Street, W., have had a 16 h.p. 20-cwt. Albion van for many years, and this vehicle has given a splendid account of itself. It still has the original pair of chains, after running approximately 30,000 miles. Both chains and sprockets are in perfect order.

Cremated in a Horse-van.

A motor-mail driver, while on the road in service between Gloucester and Bath, early in the morning of the 1st inst., came across a horsedrawn caravan in flames. Be found inside it the charred body of the occupaut, a man named Hooper. The fire had originated from the stove by which the interior of the caravan was heated, while the -owner was asleep.

A Lady Can Drive One.

An -unusual photographic subject is reproduced as an illustration herewith, It will be seen that a lady occupies the driver's seat of a typical Commercar lorry. She has not posed in fashion which is familiar to readers of illustrative periodicals, but was persuaded to occupy the driving seat in order that a photographic record might be secured as an illustration of the fact that the control of Commercars is of such a nature that it is even suitable for operation by members of the fair sex.

Mrs. Jack Damen, who is ths wife of the manager of the Darwen Motor Truck Co., of Winnipeg, Canada, is, we learn, in the habit of assisting him in his business by driving his demonstration two-tonner. The Dame Co. is the Winnipeg agent for Commercars. 1\ifrs. Damen has actually driven a two .tonner long distances in Canada, -carrying a full load. We learn that her handling of one of the Commercar demonstration machines down at the Luton works recently was the subject of much admiration on the part of the members of the staff who witnessed what was undoubtedly an extremely intersting demonstration.

The driver of a commercial motor, named Edwin Butcher, while driving between Winchester and Otterbourne in the snow, one day last week, experienced a severe skid. Both driver and vehicle were uninjured, but the marl dropped dead, as the result of shock, shortly after the mishap

On page -101 of our last issue we reproduced a photograph of a recent Arinst'oug-Whitworth delivery to Messrs. A. Buchanan and Co., of Rhymney. The capacity of this example should have been given as four tons. The vehicle in question, which is astandard ArmstrongWhitworth brewer's van, was supplied through the company's agents, the Glamorgan Engineering Co., of Cardiff, and the body, which is attractively finished, was built by Alessi's. Todd and Wright, of Paddington. The general offices of Commercial Car Hirers, Ltd., have been transferred from Cremorne Works, Lot's Road, Chelsea, to Caxton House, Westminster, S.W. The temporary telephone numbers are .iii and 4187 Regent. When the permanent telephone is installed, Lhe numbers will be 7274 and 7275 Regent. This company's work is gro wing satisfactorily. Amongst recent deliveries of Hollings and Guest presses, it is interesting to record that plants of this kind have been sold as follow : One for the Crown Agents for the Colonies ; one for Fairclough Bros., of Commercial Road, London; one for the R.E.T. Construction Co. ; one for the Worthing Motor Services, Ltd. ; one to Brus.sels ; for the Dunlop Rubber Co., one each for Sheffield, Shipley, Bristol, Middlesbrough, Johannesburg and Colombo ; and for the Avon India Rubber Co., one each for Plymouth, Sheffiekband Northampton.

The latest type of Green motor sweeper, which we illustrated in a recent issue, is now hard at work in service for the Nottingham Corporation. We are taking steps, in view of our desire to encourage the production of this class, of Britishbuilt plant, to ensure, that reports reach this office regularly of -the behaviour of thesc...machines.
