More power and an increased capacity (but only by 100cc) have not made a noticeable dent in the Euro-4 Vivaro's fuel consumption. For the laden run we recorded 33.1 mpg (a touch behind the FordTransit's 35.1). improving to 35.3mpg unladen.Although a little thirstier than the competition, the Vivaro is also a slightly heavier van.

A payload of 1,120kg combined with a volume of 4.2r& gives the Vivaro double-cab plenty of useable cargo potential, while the low (547mm) loading lip allows easy access On the ownership front,Vauxhall has taken steps to minimise downtime by introducing Premier Service Centres. As well as having specialist CV technicians on site, these centres guarantee same-day repair provided parts are in stock. What's more, diagnosis or repairs should take no more than 90 minutes — and there is no need to book appointments in advance.

According to Vauxhall, there is a centre within an hour's driving time of almost 90% of UK households.

On the road

The Vivaro drew plenty of praise at its launch in 2001 for being easy to drive. Those who hadn't driven a van before could hop in and be on their way without too much thought. The main reason for this was the way everything worked in harmony. From the steering and the chassis to power delivery and the cabin, it all combined to produce a stress-free and positive drive.

Times have moved on and all the Vivaro's rivals have introduced newer models —but it still feels as usable as ever, We still don't know what Vauxhall's engineers have done to the suspension, but we have yet to encounter a more capable and forgiving set-up. It absorbs bumps and potholes with confidence, while
