Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Residents near a green-belt site in Her ifordshire are opposing its development as a major road-rail

interchange. David Harris reports.

A DEVELOPER'S plan to build a massive road-rail interchange on an old aerodrome near St Albans, Herts is being fiercely opposed by local campaigners.

HelloSlough, which specialises in majorwarehouse developments, has put in a planning application to build a 325m intermodal depot on the former Radlett aerodrome, on 300 acres of green-belt land. The site would be able to handle 12 trains a day with more than 600 truck parking spaces. A container handling system would give it access to the deep-sea container ports' traffic.

The STRIFE campaigners (Stop the Rail Freight Exchange) warn that the site would exacerbate congestion in St Albans. They also fear it will handle hazardous loads and say local property would be devalued.
